Thank God for Lay-Offs
I couldn’t believe what my manager was telling me. “Your position has been eliminated as part of the company’s global consolidation project. Consider this your two week notice.” After 15 years with the company, I was now part of the workforce reduction plan. I was being laid off!
Thankfully, I worked for a company that offers employees two week’s notice as part of their workforce reduction severance package.
Thankfully, I had learned how to cope with stressful situations and was able to resist depression and “poor-me”s during those difficult two weeks.
Thankfully, I had the strength to “suit up and show up” every day during that time, enabling me to network with other internal departments.
Thankfully, I had spent the past 15 years building my reputation and strong network of advocates.
Thankfully, my advocates went to work spreading the news about my situation and alerting me of possible positions elsewhere in the company.
Thankfully, I had the humility required to apply for any and every position I was alerted to.
Thank God, I had the support of family and loved ones; my situation was well covered in prayer.
Thank God, I received a job offer for a similar position elsewhere within the company.
Thank God, my termination date as part of the workforce reduction plan coincided with my start date at my new job elsewhere in the company.
Thank God, I was able to avoid interruption to my benefits, tenure, and salary.
Thank God, my new position included a promotion and a raise.
Thank you, God, for showering me with your favor… not because I deserved it or earned it; but because you love me and I needed it.
